A significant rockfall has occurred on the top half of the route Borneo, at the BMC owned and managed cliff, Craig Bwlch y Moch at Tremadog.

Sometime last week a lead climber accidentally dislodged some large blocks in the upper part of the v-corner of the route Borneo, a VS at Craig Bwlch y Moch, Tremadog. Unfortunately the same climber also suffered some serious injuries, believed to be a broken arm, and was rescued by other climbers, including a team of instructors from Plas y Brenin.

Most of the dislodged blocks are now at the base of the cliff  (some are quite large, weighing several hundreds of kilograms). However the upper part of the route is now likely to be considerably harder, and still contains a significant amount of loose rock and soil.

Due to the vegetation cover its very difficult to see the actual loose section from below and as there are several other routes that also start in the same place, climbers are advised to avoid this route until it has been cleaned up and the loose rock removed.

As with all natural cliffs, the whole of the Tremadog escarpment does suffer from periodic natural rock falls and climbers are reminded that this is an inherent part of the risk  of climbing at such places.
