The BMC is sad to announce the death of honorary member Vin Machin, who passed away on 6 September, aged 85.
Vin was awarded honorary membership of the BMC in 1987. A chartered engineer by profession, and later an instructor, he was chair of the Technical Committee from 1975 to 1987, and chaired the Training Committee from 1987 to 1992. Vin was a member of the Manchester-based Rucksack Club, which he joined in 1980.
Outside of his support for the BMC, Vin was active in the caving community, where he was an assessor for the Local Cave and Mine Leader Assessment Scheme (LCMLA), and acted as secretary for PICA, a constituent body of the Derbyshire Caving Association, which disseminates safety and conservation information about the caves and mines that can be used for LCMLA led trips in the region.
Vin passed away peacefully at home after a long period of ill health, with his son Michael and daughter Gillian at his side.
