Tremfest 2012 attracted over 50 enthuthiastic BMC volunteers to carry out essential maintenance and improvement works at Craig Bwlch y Moch, Tremadog. The BMC wants to thank all who helped and contributed to a great and memorable weekend.

Tremfest is a biannual event, originally conceived by Mike Raine, the previous BMC Cymru chair, but now industriously cared for by husband and wife team of Jim and Julia Kelly. The aim of the event is to give the BMC owned crag at Bwlch y Moch a bit of a spring clean - including clearing overgrown routes, removing old fencing, re-opening blocked paths and so on.

Despite a poor forecast and torrential rain at the start, on the weekend of April 21st/22nd over 50 willing and enthusiastic volunteers turned up to help with this task - and for the first time special permission was granted by the Countryside Council for Wales to carry out work on the approach paths to Craig Pant Ifan as well.

The approach paths to Pant Ifan are important sites for the extremely rare Rock Stonecrop plant, only found in four other locations in Wales and the volunteers carefully and meticulously cleared away encroaching vegetation, both to allow  the paths to be opened for climbers, while at the same time providing a better habitat for this colonising plant.

After all the hard work was completed, all the volunteers were given an opportunity to take part in a massive free prize draw, with all sort of wonderful goodies donated by various outdoor companies and organisations, before being entertained by a slide talk by local Bangor student and alpinist Tom Ripley.

Did I also mention that the BMC and the Climber's Club donated some free local "Purple Moose" beer as well?
