We recently held a photo-shoot for the This Girl Can Climb campaign at Manchester Climbing Centre. We'd like to introduce you to the phenomenal women that we met, over the next few months we'll be finding out more about our This Girl Can climbers and sharing their stories with you.
Judith
At the age of 68 Judith has been climbing for just a few months. Judith describes herself as “an utter newbie to climbing but totally addicted!”
Claire
Claire went along to a Womenclimb event for beginners in August 2015, she's been climbing since then. “Climbing has given me new confidence, and reaching the top of any wall is a great achievement.” We only need to look at Claire's blog to see how passionate she is about This Girl Can.
Lisa
Lisa started climbing with her family and since their taster session she's met loads of friends through climbing at her local wall. “We've met so many great people, learnt an amazing amount, and I've become strong and toned” Find out more about Lisa.
Nikki
Nikki is a new mum, she used to climb in her 20s and is now looking to get back into climbing so the family can spend time outdoors together. “I like the way climbing uses the whole body – and it’s not about being really strong or fit, but learning the skills and technique”.
Emily
Emily started climbing four years ago as a New Year’s Resolution. Emily says: “I was actually a little unsure at first, but I persevered and soon caught the bug. I don’t climb particularly hard and it’s not always pretty to watch, but I enjoy it so much and it’s great to get some exercise that doesn’t feel like exercise.”
Emily T
Emily has been climbing for a few years and loves challenging herself. Currently expecting her first child, Emily says: “I didn't dream of stopping climbing through my pregnancy, and I fully intend to be a mum who climbs.”
Anoushé
Anoushé started climbing fairly recently and overcame her fear of becoming a newbie. “Noone expects you to be perfect so why are we putting pressure on ourselves to be so?”
Amanda
Amanda's usual climbing partner is her daughter, and she climbs with a local ladies climbing group through which she has met many other climbing friends.
Victoria
Victoria first started climbing a number of years ago. Although she's taken breaks from climbing for work, study, and heath conditions, she finds climbing offers flexibility and the option to fit it around her life.
Steph
Steph is a lover of outdoor sports, in particular climbing and caving. She's recently passed her Climbing Wall Award enabling her to supervise climbers on indoor walls.
Fran
Fran has been climbing for about a year. She's now a regular climber and gets so much enjoyment out of it.
Aw Yong
Aw Yong is lucky to be based in North Wales, which sees her getting outdoors with the ladies climbing group as well as meeting at the local indoor wall.
