Awesome news: yet another award-winning BMC TV film is going public. If you haven't seen it yet, The Bothy Project is now free to watch. Find out how here.
The Bothy Project: Public launch
We're excited to announce the release of BMC TV's award-winning short film: The Bothy Project. Following four female artists to a remote Scottish bothy to untangle their need for outdoor space, The Bothy Project was a breath of fresh air amidst the adrenaline-fuelled adventure films when it premiered at Kendal Mountain Festival in 2016.
This BMC TV film, supported by Lowe Alpine, features filmmaker Jen Randall as she travels to the remote Shenavall bothy in the highlands of Scotland, accompanied by wild-swimming-video-artist Natasha Brooks (star of Blue Hue ), acclaimed Sheffield artist Tessa Lyons (BMC clothing designer ) and poet Claire Carter (as seen in Operation Moffat ) to explore the surrounding wilderness.
With additional cinematography from Nick Brown and James France, this is a stunningly shot, evocative call of the wild that will inspire you to head north and find your own adventures. Watch it now!

Winner of Gold, Silver awards at ShAFF
With over 100 of the best adventure, extreme sports and travel films carefully selected from entries submitted from every corner of the globe, the latest release from BMC TV and Light Shed Pictures, The Bothy Project, was but one film amid a sea of stars at the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival (ShAFF) 2017. But its unique intertwining of stories, nature, and stunning scenery positioned it perfectly to capture the attention of judges of the 11 individual categories of the ShAFF 2017 Awards.
The Bothy Project scooped up Gold in the 'Made in Sheffield' category and Silver in the 'Women in Adventure' category. We'd like to congratulate Jen Randall, the team, and everyone involved on creating yet another outstandingly evocative film.
Jen Randall says: “The Bothy Project was wrestled into its current shape by the whole team, so it's great to see it in festivals, see people enjoy it, and to win these awards at ShAFF. It all confirms what the crew felt already: that the wrestling was totally worth it!”
Gold: 'Made in Sheffield'
The ‘Made in Sheffield’ award was created to support and nurture local talent and is judged on the basis of films that best showcase the city, whether that is through location, music, production or featured athletes. This year’s winner is the Bothy Project, a film exploring what happens when you send four artists to a remote Scottish bothy to try and untangle their need for outdoor space. Made by Jen Randall, Sheffield based filmmaker Nick Brown, James France and writer/producer Claire Jane Carter.
Silver: 'Women in Adventure'
The award for Women in Adventure has been judged by the Director of Derbyshire Sport, Hayley Lever. She described this year’s category as ‘particularly strong, with a real diversity of films across all sports from running to mountain biking and range of themes from those surmounting personal challenges to more poetic and artistic interpretations.’
Women in Adventure Film Competition 2018
Have an idea for a film that you want to share? Make it and enter it in the BMC Women in Adventure Film Competition next year! If you've ever visited an adventure film festival you'll know that adventure films come in all shapes and sizes. From mini adventures and dramas to epic big-wall climbs, only imagination limits the possibilities of filmmaking.
In 2014, we noticed that just a fifth of the films screened at ShAFF featured female protagonists, or were made by women. We want to change that. That's why we started this competition, and it's getting bigger and better each year. With more cash prizes available, and the chance to have your film shown at world-renowned film festivals ShAFF and Banff Mountain Film Festival, you'd be crazy to miss out. Get started on your project now and stay tuned for more information.
