Snowdonia’s sun god looked down kindly on this year’s seminar with glorious autumnal weather the whole weekend for the ninety students and forty volunteers.
Now in its twentieth year at Plas y Brenin and as popular as ever, this year’s seminar encompassed all aspects of climbing, hill walking and mountaineering. Students took part in a range of theory and practical sessions including navigation, scrambling, first aid, crampon use and rock climbing.
The evening saw two fun bouldering and orienteering competitions, with DMM donating prizes.
In preparation for the winter walking and climbing season, some students were introduced to using crampons on Britain's only 'glacier'. This one being built from railway sleepers!
Next year's seminar will be at Plas y Brenin on 10 and 11 October with all student clubs are welcome to send two members. Volunteers are provided with food and accommodation for the weekend, with their travel expenses reimbursed.
