Following the success of the BMC's Student Safety Seminar, the BMC is providing a series of subsidised courses aimed specifically at students/freshers.
Based in beautiful North Wales at Plas y Brenin, the National Mountain Sports Centre for England and Wales, these two-day courses are designed to provide the necessary skills for novice members of student clubs/societies to become self-sufficient, either on the hill or at the crag.
With tuition delivered by highly qualified PyB staff, the courses provide peace of mind to both committee members and Student Unions that new members are receiving the best training possible.
There will be options of climbing, scrambling or hill walking days to suit the needs of a wide variety of student clubs and the ability to mix and match depending on each member’s preference and skill levels.
The price, subsidised by the BMC’s Sport England funding, is £80 (down from £140) and includes accommodation at one of PyB’s self-catering cottages – Bryn Engan Bunkhouse or Moelwyn Cottage. The facilities allow the cost of the courses to be kept down and enable each club to manage its own budget; there is also the option of being able to bring your own alcohol too, although PyB has an excellent bar on site!
Each weekend has room for 16 people and is ideally suited towards a single club/society attending. Plas y Brenin provide all transport throughout the weekend and are able to collect/drop-off at nearby Llandudno Junction train station if public transport is being used to get to the centre.
The date currently available is:
To book onto these courses please contact either the Plas y Brenin reception on 01690 720214.
