Are you ready for sea-cliff climbing adventures? Check out the new five-part BMC TV skills series to discover the skills and techniques that you'll need for this new environment.
Our great British sea cliffs are guaranteed to create some of your most intense climbing experiences. From abseiling down dark zawns to sitting on sunny tidal ledges, from nervously shuffling up salt-slick holds to grasping granite jugs, a world of salty adventure awaits.
And what an adventure it can be. High tides and wild seas mean that the difficulty of a given route can change from day to day. Rock quality can be variable, fixed equipment unreliable and accessing or escaping from a climb complex.
Now, to help you make the transition to this new environment, there’s a new series of sea-cliff skills films on BMC TV. These five films, all shot on location in Cornwall, highlight the skills and techniques that you’ll need in these exciting, yet unforgiving, venues.
The series has been produced and edited by James Mann of the BMC South West area, in association with the Association of Mountaineering Instructors . The filming team are all committed sea-cliff enthusiasts with many years of coastal climbing knowledge to share: Dave Linnett, Dr Dave Hillebrandt, Jay Jackson (MIA) Sam Percival (MIA), Stu Bradbury (MIA), Daisy Peters and Will Hornby.
We hope you’ll learn some new skills and be inspired for your own adventures.
“The UK’s coastline is the fullest and most rewarding environment to explore and climb. The variety of routes carved by the erosive power of the sea is astounding and the excitement and sense of adventure you feel abseiling into a sector is addictive. Combine this with unique wildlife and never being far from a good ice cream and you have the perfect climbing experience.” - Sam Percival
“It is more than just ticking off another route. The sea, wildlife and an exploratory spirit combine with great friendships to provide truly memorable adventure." - James Mann
