Custodian of the iconic Roaches, the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust (SWT), has launched a massive public appeal to traditionally restore the footpaths on the Roaches over the next 3 years.
A major program of much needed footpath repair work and adjacent moorland restoration is being initiated from this summer.
BMC Access Officer Rob Dyer and Dave Bishop of the BMC’s Access & Conservation Trust (ACT) have been involved in reviewing the planned program on site with SWT staff and are satisfied with the plans and how they resolve our concerns regarding climbing and bouldering, footpath standards, moorland restoration, and drainage.
ACT has already donated £5,000 of ‘kick-start’ funding to this project and SWT are able to seek additional major funding as a result. But even if successful this additional funding will still leave a shortfall as the work is scheduled to cost £175,000 over the next three years.
If you’ve enjoyed climbing, bouldering or walking in this area you are both part of the problem and part of the solution. So please dig out that spare cash and help restore and protect this Staffordshire jewel by giving to the appeal.
