Report a gear failure

Broken gear - who you going to call?

Have you had a piece of mountaineering or climbing equipment fail on you unexpectedly? You can send the item to the manufacturer, or alternatively you can ask the BMC to investigate.

It's usually faster to send a broken or worrying item of gear to the manufacturer, so we recommend you do this in most cases, in particular if the problem is a quality issue and not a safety one.

If, however, you have a completely unexpected failure, or suspect that there may be lessons which can be learnt by others from your experience, then you can send the broken equipment to the BMC Technical Committee for investigation.

Send your gear along with an incident report form to:

BMC Technical Officer

177-179 Burton Road

Manchester

M20 2BB

Our volunteer team will investigate, and where necessary contact manufacturers for comment, warn users of issues and publish technical reports.

If you are unsure about a piece of gear, drop the Technical Officer an email for some unbiased advice: dan@thebmc.co.uk
