In an attempt to counter some of the environmental degradation that is taking place due to increasing numbers of visitors to the area, new regulations are to come into effect in the northern part of Los Glaciares National Park.
These are:
- From September 2007 the use of horses to transport food and equipment on the trails around Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre will no longer be allowed. Climbers should come prepared to carry their food and gear to their camps.
- No permanent or semi-permanent shelters are to built within the park. Additionally, the Campo De Agostini climber's shelter has been taken down.
Camping within the Park is still permitted and all other regulations remain unchanged. Climbers and mountaineers visiting the area have to register at the Park's office upon arriving at Chalten - this is mandatory but free.
