The Second International "Trad" Climbing Meeting, organized by the Club Alpino Accademico Italiano (CAAI), will take place from the 16th-22nd September 2012.
The venue is again the Orco Valley, a granite paradise on the southern side of the Gran Paradiso in the Piedmont region of north west Italy.
The First International Meeting took place in September 2010 and was a huge success (read Tom Randall's report), with a week of almost perfect warm autumn weather and an extremely friendly atmosphere.
Orco is often referred to as Italy's "Little Yosemite", and is one of the few areas left in the country where it is still possible to climb with natural gear, even on single pitches.
Soaring crack lines, of all shapes and sizes, predominate and have generally been preserved for clean climbing. However, there are many compact slabs and walls, where bolt protection is the norm.
Climbs are mostly multi-pitch adventures, either close to the road, such as the famous formations of the Sergent and Caporal, or requiring a longer mountain approach.
Routes up to 200m are common, though some offer 500m of climbing.
The BMC has once again been asked to nominate two climbers to take part in this event, with the preference being one male and one female.
The number of foreign participants will be restricted to a maximum of 46, and as the meet will most probably be well subscribed, earlier applications are likely to be given priority.
Participants will be paired with local hosts during the meet and should be competent crack climbers, comfortable at E2 or F6b.
Food, accommodation, partners, transport (and possibly airport transfer) will be provided by the organization. Each participant will pay a registration fee of 100 Euros.
If you wish to be considered for this meet, please can you indicate the following, on one side of A4, and email back to Nick Colton at nick@thebmc.co.uk by 5pm on Friday 20th January 2012:
1. Your age.
2. A brief outline of your climbing experience, including your trad climbing experience.
3. A positive pitch about why you would like to attend this meet.
