Applications are now open for the 2024 Jonathan Conville Memorial Trust alpine mountaineering courses for 18 to 30 year olds. With 50% of the course cost met by the Trust, these provide a great introduction for aspiring mountaineers.
Established in 1980, the Jonathan Conville Memorial Trust (JCMT) has provided over 5,000 young people the essential skills needed to play safely in the mountains through their subsidised course offering in the Alps and UK. The BMC has been a key JCMT partner for forty years.
All course fees represent 50% of the true cost, with the Trust meeting half of all course costs.
Two-day JCMT Scottish Winter Mountaineering Courses are delivered in the Cairngorms during January 2024. The £135 course fee covers all instruction delivered at a 1:6 ratio, two nights full board accommodation at Fraoch Lodge in Boat of Garten, and all in-course transport.
Two-day JCMT Alpine Preparation Courses are delivered in North Wales during May 2024. The £105 course fee covers all instruction delivered at a 1:4 ratio, two nights self-catering accommodation at White Peris near Llanberis and in-course transport if required.
Three-day JCMT Alpine Mountaineering Courses are delivered in Chamonix during June and July 2024. The £195 course fee covers all instruction delivered at a 1:3 ratio by a BMG Guide. Not included are campsite fees, food and any cable car uplift costs that may be incurred during the course. Successful applicants will need to hold rescue cover, which the BMC can provide with our Alpine & Ski policy.
