On This Roc (OTR) is a climbing-based community project in Liverpool that uses climbing to engage with young people and equip them with life skills. The organisation has just signed a small sponsorship agreement to support the GB Junior Climbing Team.
OTR has taught over 200 young people how to climb and coached 45 of them to achieve certificates in the National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme. Many of them are now members of their local climbing centres. OTR says climbing builds confidence, patience, trust, teamwork and self-esteem and a sense of personal and group achievement. They have had great success working with young offenders in the criminal justice system.
The project also works with the disabled and supports a visually impaired climbing team currently competing in the BMC Paraclimbing Series. The OTR team won three medals at the first event in Rochdale, held in April, including a gold. The team could represent Britain in the World Paraclimbing Championships held in Paris in September.
OTR hope the GB Junior Team will inspire their young climbers by working with them at their base in Liverpool.
The GB Junior Team are looking forward to working with their new partners and are grateful for the support that will allow them to compete and train more this season and into the future.
The team always requires more support and if you or your company would be interested in supporting the GB Climbing team please click here to get in contact.
