As members of the IFMGA, British Mountain Guides are proud of the fact that their skiing is at the same high standard as their continental colleagues. For the trainees and aspirants currently going through the scheme, the "class of 2009" is no exception.
Making the most of the superb weather and snow conditions in the Alps this season the three day "ski technique" course in Leysin was delivered by world renowned experts.
As usual, the course was directed by Alex Languetin, one of Switzerland's most respected snow sport instructors and member of the Swiss Demonstration Team. This year Alex was supported by Oliver Scherrer and Jean Pavillard. Together, they have extensive experience of training and assessing Swiss and American Guides.
It takes many years to become a Guide, and this course is available to all British Guides as often as they wish to further hone their off piste skiing.
When you combine this with their equally high level of training on the avalanche course, and the knowledge gained from their "physical performance and coaching" module, you can be sure that a British Mountain Guide has all the skills to take good care of you off the piste and help you achieve your potential along the way.
If you love skiing off piste, but lack the confidence to duck under the ropes, taking a Guide can take all of the stress out of the process. You don't have to be a total expert on the planks either.
Should you decide you do need a little help then you can be sure that a British Mountain Guide has all the skills you need! Check out the new BMG website to find one!
