Mumtaz Khan has established a new community based walking group in Bradford Yorkshire that aims to aid community cohesion by actively encouraging people from different cultures and different ethnic backgrounds to engage with each other during walks.
Mumtaz and her group have been supported by the British Mountaineering Council, Mountain Leader Training England, the Mosaic Project, Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and Girlington Community Association
The group have recently undertaken training under the Walking Group Leader scheme and have established a new community based walking group that they have called Onna Walks.
The group also aims to help people develop skills such as map reading and navigation to empower them to visit the Dales and the countryside independently.
The group will be offering walks ranging from gentle strolls to more demanding walks. Trips in the summer will allow people to experience camping on organised campsites and for those wishing to experience something more challenging there will be the opportunity to wild camp in Scotland in the future.
