The production line of popular good practice DVDs continues with Off Piste Essentials. Released in December 2008, you can watch the trailer here to see what's in store.
Off Piste Essentials has been written and directed by staff at Plas y Brenin. As well as working hard to deliver their extensive programme of subsidised courses and training opportunities, they also get involved with many publishing projects, such as books, leaflets magazines, websites, films and DVDs.
This year, Plas y Brenin's ski department teamed up with the BMC to bring the latest in the series of best-selling DVDs. Off Piste Essentials is designed to help skiers venture further into the mountains confidently and safely. Off Piste Essentials captures the story of a group of friends going off piste skiing and on a multi day ski tour. Following them on their journey we see the decisions they make, the obstacles and hazards they negotiate and observe how they choose their route and adjust their plans accordingly.
Highly informative, the DVD is packed with great skiing and mountain scenery. A series of technical chapters expand upon the main message in the film, dealing with technical issues and other relevant areas like kit to wear and carry, health issues, fitness, glacier skiing, avoiding avalanches, crevasse incidents and dealing with injuries and rescue.
Above all, Off Piste Essentials will appeal to piste skiers who would like to stray off-piste but lack the confidence, knowledge and judgment.
