Al Parker has just published a definitive history of the Alpha Mountaineering Club.
Al Parker started his book as a way of putting the history of the club right and entitled it Alpha Males to reflect the fact that the club was made up entirely of males.
As Al points out, the Alpha started life in Manchester and became one of the main driving forces of its day.
This is a fascinating detailed history and is peppered with such names as Paul Nunn, Martin Boysen, Richard (Alan) McHardy, Pete Crew, Baz Ingle, Griff (Brian Griffiths), and so many more. Their exploits and adventures are followed and reflected upon fondly and with humour.
If you have an interest in climbing history then this book is a must read.
Available from the BMC shop with discount for BMC members.
