The BMC Bolts Working Group (BWG) has established a long term test programme, based at Horseshoe Quarry in the Peak District. The test bolts will help provide information on the performance and longevity of different bolting systems.
Around 50 bolts using 4 different bolting systems have been placed at the quarry. No climbable areas of rock have been affected, and particular care was taken not to damage any of the interesting coral bed fossil features found on the quarry floor.
The test programme will be long term, and from time to time bolts will be destructively tested to evaluate their performance.
Please avoid damaging these bolts, and please do not attempt to remove them.
A big thank you is due to Chris Parkin of the North Wales Bolt Fund. Chris made the long drive over from Wales to loan his petrol drill and provide his expertise. Also, thanks to Dave Towse at Dragon Safety Systems for the loan of their Hilti bolt tester. Thanks guys!
