BMC Patron Mick Fowler will be the main speaker at next month’s Hope Valley Adventure Film Festival, with a retrospective of 40 years of incredible first ascents.

Now in its sixth year, Hope Valley Adventure Film Festival (HVAFF) takes place on Saturday 21 February at Hope Valley College in the Peak District, and is a fantastic day of films, lectures, activities and food & drink.

Not only can the 2015 festival boast an appearance by the ‘Climbing Taxman', it will also feature the ‘Stone Monkey’ Johnny Dawes, who will be reading sections from his autobiography. Over 25 adventure films from around the world will be shown, including: the award-winning Valley Uprising, the spectacular and colourful history of Yosemite rock climbing; and Wideboyz II, the continuing adventures of Tom Randall and Pete Whittaker on their quest to climb the world’s hardest cracks. There will also be a kids’ bouldering competition, a film-making competition, an art and photography exhibition, plus food, beer and a raffle of great outdoor prizes.

Mick Fowler lecture: There’s no easy way

Mick’s ‘life and times’ lecture will span his early years making first ascents of some of the UK’s finest rock climbs through to more recent success on the incredible Prow of Shiva in the Indian Himalaya, climbed by the well-tried and tested partnership of Fowler and Paul Ramsden in 2012.

The lecture starts at 7:30pm, tickets cost £7:50.

Johnny Dawes book readings: Full of Myself

During informal sessions Johnny will read from his self-published autobiography, an honest and revealing exploration of the highs and lows of a decade during which he could be described as the boldest and most creative of his generation. Signed copies will be available to purchase on the day.

Readings commence at 2.30 & 4.00pm

TICKETS: A Day Pass provides access to all activities at the festival between 11.00am and 6.30pm. Tickets are cheaper in advance and with quicker access on the day, available online at www.hvaff.co.uk or over the counter at OUTSIDE Hathersage. Tickets are also available on the day at reception - cash and cheque only, card facilities not available.
