40 students from around the country attended the outdoor club seminar organised by the University of Manchester Hiking Club.
The seminar featured lectures, discussions and practical sessions exploring risk in the outdoors, with the aim of sharing experiences and highlighting best practice.
A range of topics were discussed, including how to prepare for days out on the hill and how to make sure that you have the neccesary skills and equipment for your next adventure.
With next year's freshers events in mind, those gathered discussed the ways in which potentiall hazards can be assesed and how measures can be put in place to reduce the risk of new club members coming to harm.
Event organiser and University of Manchester Hiking Club member Michael Jimenez explained his aims for the event:
'When organising the seminar, we had a few main aims, but really the main one was to get people talking to each other about how they stay safe in the outdoors. There's an incredible amount of experience out there, the problem is that sometimes we just don't share it with each other and the hope was that when we got people together, we could tap into that experience.'
The success of the event was down to the hard working volunteers from the University of Manchester Hiking Club and from the Remote first aid training accademy.
The event was supported by both the University of Manchester Students' Union and the BMC. Cotswold Outdoor provided equipment to be used in practical sessions.
