Lancashire Mountaineering Club can help you progress to real rock

Posted by Alex Messenger on 31/01/2014
Make the jump to real rock this year.

Is your New Year's resolution to make the transition to climbing on real rock? This spring, Lancashire Mountaineering Club is running a series of outdoor climbing meets called Progression to Rock. Aimed at experienced indoor climbers, these are free and you don't even need to be a member of the club to attend.

The aim of these meets is to help experienced indoor climbers make the transition to outdoor climbing. It will not be professional training, but members of the club will be mentoring and assisting where required.

It's a great opportunity for keen climbers who have been lead climbing indoors, or have attended instructed sessions outdoors, to continue developing skills with experienced climbers.

You don't need to be a member of our club or pay anything to attend. It is open to everyone. If the climber is under 18, it is recommended that they are accompanied by a parent.

For those that go on to join the Lancashire Mountaineering Club, a day of professional  instruction will be organised in summer to further develop outdoor traditional  rock-climbing leading skills.

What's the skill level?

The club asks that you can:

  • Safely put on your own harness
  • Safely tie in to the rope
  • Safely belay a lead climber

You will be expected to be able to do these three things independently at meets

Meet dates

Sunday 9th March, Troy Quarry (12:00pm)
Saturday 5th April, Tremadog
Saturday 17th May, Shepherds Crag, Borrowdale
Saturday 7th June, Idwal Slabs, Ogwen

We're planning on doing this with our club this year too. What is the insurance position if we take out non-members?

If your club is affiliated to the BMC, they would be insured as prospective members. You would have to record their details. For more detailed information contact ray@thebmc.co.uk.
