Despite the rain, Saturday turned out to be an absolute scorcher of a day in terms of both the level of climbing and the temperatures the competitors were battling with inside the massive Depot Manchester.
There were some fantastic performances on Saturday and some real battles on greasy problems in very hot and humid conditions. Stand out efforts from the final would include Max Milne's ascent of his second problem which secured him the win, on a problem that stopped most of the junior climbers as well. And Imi Bagnall-Smith who battled her way up her first two problems after the buzzer had gone, to come down shaking like a leaf but pleased to have gained 3rd place.

From April 2017 the BMC will be initiating a new structure to the GB Climbing Performance Pathway. The new GB Climbing Development Squad will provide a progressive stepping stone from local talent clubs and the domestic competition circuit into international competition as a GB Climbing Team athlete.
The Development Squad will use a cohesive and strategic approach between the disciplines of lead, boulder and speed to better support and prepare our athletes through a Long Term Athlete Development model.
The new direction for GB Climbing will also see a change in which athletes with international potential are selected to the Teams. Selection for the 2017 GB Climbing Development Squad will take place following an application process at an open selection event held over the weekend of 3rd/4th December 2016. Each athlete will be assessed on their technical, tactical, physical and psychological skills and competence while lifestyle aspects such Nutrition, will also be analysed.
Current members of the GB Climbing Team are expected to attend the Development Squad selection event. If an athlete does not attend the event they will be ineligible for re-selection.
Full details and selection criteria will be published August 2016.
