8 members of the Junior British Climbing Team competed in the IFSC EYS in Imst onthe 22/23 May 2010. The report below is from competitor Ed Hamer.
After leaving Manchester on a pleasant and uneventful journey to Austria, the GB Team arrived at the hotel in Imst which was pretty luxurious with swimming pool, sauna and waterbeds! Having slept well, we spent our rest day amusing ourselves on the Alpine Roller Coaster and chilling out by the pool, preparing ourselves for the competitive day ahead.
Early to bed, early to rise and well fed, saw us at the Imst Wall on the Saturday morning ready to take on many top European climbers. The Wall was steep, with routes that were sustained and pumpy, although technically steady.
The GB team performed well overall in their categories, but as always were up against tough competition particularly from Austria and Slovenia.
Two members of the team went through to the final, Shauna Coxsey and Edward Hamer, finishing 6th and 10th respectively. Everyone enjoyed the occasion.
They learnt from their mistakes, know their weaknesses and have gone away to work on them and are psyched for the next competition!
