The 2015 BMC Hut Seminar was held on 14th March, at the BMC office in Manchester. The seminar was well attended and we've received generally very positive feedback from delegates about the day.
BMC Huts Seminar 2015
There are many important issues for volunteers involved in managing Club huts, and this seminar was designed to draw on the collective knowledge and experience of the delegates and expert speakers to come up with solutions to these problems. The morning kicked off with a series of presentations, with workshops in the afternoon.
Summaries of the workshops and presentations can be downloaded here:
Presentation - maximising occupancy
Presentation - hut usage models
Presentation - health and safety
Presentation - energy efficiency
Presentation - insurance
Workshop - minimising energy costs
Workshop - increasing income and occupancy
Workshop - effective hut management
The event was a great opportunity for hut volunteers to network, to compares notes and share experiences. As Clubs look forward to the future and the changing needs and expectations both of their members and visitors to their huts, the overall message from the seminar was that these challenges can be met, and that a role for the BMC is to assist and support the Clubs in their aspirations to meet these challenges.
The BMC would like to thank all the delegates for attending, the speakers for their informative presentations, and most of all Mike Battye and John Scarborough for their hard work in making the seminar run smoothly.
