Holmfirth's world famous Cliff is now open. This was only partly true until last Sunday, when half the crag was cloaked in soil and brambles. Things have changed.
With a team of hard working locals, Cliff is now open to the elements and is back to being the Fontainebleau of West Yorkshire. The problems are accessible from end to end now, rather than being unable to get to half of the potential climbing. It will take a few weeks for it to settle down, and a little more work from above will be good to get the cliff to full potential, but the major works have been done.
For those concerned about the amount of lopped branches left in piles away from the crag, don't worry. Current tree surgery/woodland practice is to create these "habitat piles". These provide somewhere to live for birds, invertebrates and all manner of small mammals. It is also better to keep native material where it came from rather than trying simply transporting it to landfill.
Thank you to everyone who came along and helped out, the results are remarkable!
