One of the most successful recent BMC initiatives has been the growing number of crag clean-ups organised by BMC Areas and carried out by local climbers, and now BMC staff have put in a shift at a local crag.
This afternoon five members of staff swapped their databases, spreadsheets and inboxes for bin bags, brushes and gardening gloves, and gave Hobson Moor Quarry a good going over.
The quarry is a popular evening climbing venue on the edge of the Manchester conurbation, with a mix of routes and bouldering, as well as a classic low-level traverse. It’s also a popular party venue for local youths, who occasionally leave it in a bit of a mess. After a couple of hours spent removing bottles, cans, broken glass and other detritus the crag is now looking as good as new.
