British climber Randy Roby achieved a very respectable 8th place at a recent competition in Imst.
The Youth Colour Climbing Festival (YCCF) is an IFSC sanctioned competition for climbers too young to compete in the European Youth Series (EYS).
Over 200 young climbers from all Europe took part in the event and the only two Brits competing, Randy and Matthew Roby, really enjoyed themselves. They found the competition a great way to gauge themselves against an international field.
Randy came 8th in the younger category and Matthew Roby came 40th in the older category. Randy climbed 10 routes over two days and topped out on 7 and got high on the last 3. Matthew climbed 9 routes and topped out on 5 narrowly missing the 6th.
British Junior Team Coach Ian Dunn was there and thought the standard very high. 'Anyone in the top 8-10 climbers could have won Randy's category, it was down to who made the least mistakes, with no one climber head and shoulders above the rest.'
Randy and Matthew are now focusing on the Rock Junior in Arco Italy on 7th and 8th June and the the BMC Youth Climbing Series Finals at Ratho on 28th June.
