Meet BoxMonkey.co - a new project to pull together the world's most inspiring climbing videos and films.
Like climbing videos? Check BoxMonkey.tv, a new project by climber and BMC member Alex Street.
“The project came about when I found myself struggling to find new and high quality climbing videos on YouTube,” explains Alex. “I figured, climbers, like me, want to watch inspiring climbing films and there needs to be place where every video is guaranteed to be of the highest quality.
That's how BoxMonkey was born. “Monkey” as in climbing, “Box” as in TV. You can find us at www.BoxMonkey.co.
Every day, a new video is added and you have 30 days to watch it. That means they'll always be something new to watch. And each of these 30 videos is the starting point for discovering more. Every film is tagged so you can start by watching climbers in Yosemite, then watch Alex Honnold solo Half Dome, find more films from his sponsor North Face and end up watching Shauna Coxsey bouldering in Spain.
“This process of mapping all the videos to the people and places that feature is really important to me,” explained Alex. “There's a unique artistic, adventurous and athletic culture that's grown up around climbing and by tagging the videos in this way people have the means to immerse themselves and journey through that culture - the climbers, the locations and the cinematographers. So, BoxMonkey, if you like, is trying to fully express that artistry and athleticism. It takes the British climbing scene to the world and the global climbing scene to Britain.”
BMC TV films are featured on Box Monkey, and we like Alex’s tagging idea - it's a fresh take on video browsing. We'll be watching to see how the project develops.
