The British Mountaineering Council (BMC) can today announce the climbers who have been named as part of the GB Climbing Team for the 2024 season.
The 2024 selection process for the disciplines of Boulder, Lead and Speed Climbing, mark the start of a pivotal International season, during which climbers will compete for gold at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
A total of 42 athletes have been invited to join the GB Climbing Team, with six of those athletes eligible to compete in the Olympic Qualifying Series (OQS).
The GB Climbing Team aims to further support the development of athletes to ensure they are equipped to compete for medals at World Championship competitions and future Olympic Games.
Returning to the GB Climbing Team is 17-year old Lucy Garlick. Last year, Lucy became the youngest British climber to compete at a senior level, reaching the finals at the IFSC European Cup at Loverval aged just 16.
Joining Lucy on the team is Rhys Conlon, a combined athlete, who competed in his first international competition back in 2021. Rhys had a successful youth season in 2023, winning his first international medal at the European Youth Cup in St. Pierre back in June of that year.

Paris 2024
Toby Roberts excelled with a gold medal winning performance at the combined European Olympic Qualifiers held in Laval in October 2023, which secured his coveted ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This historic accomplishment not only marks a significant milestone for Roberts but also establishes him as the first male sport climber to represent Team GB at the Olympic Games.
The start of a new season always brings with it a level of excitement as we see athletes taking their first steps into the world of elite sport on the international stage.
As we head into an Olympic year, the athletes on the GB Climbing Team get to see up-close what it takes to become an Olympian through training alongside athletes competing in the Olympic Qualifying Series.
The international programme starts on the 5 April 2024 at the IFSC Curno European Youth Cup in Italy. Senior international competition starts on 8 April 2024 at the IFSC Keqiao World Cup in China.
