The last BMC North West Area gathering decided to give the legendary Frogsmouth Quarry (Runcorn) a good going over and restore it to its previous glory. Now, thanks to the work of Goi Ashmore, Colin Struthers and John Haslam, Halton Council and the local rangers have given us the go-ahead.
The date for your diaries is Sunday 7th February . Meet at the quarry from 10am where you will be given a choice of jobs, lent equipment, and fed with tea, (homemade) cake and biscuits until the job is done.
The jobs include clearing vegetation from the base of the crag, felling trees close to the face to improve air circulation, removing litter, and cleaning routes which have become overgrown.
Bolting Workshop
In addition to the clean-up, Dan Middleton, the BMC’s bolting supremo, will be running a bolting workshop at the crag. The aim of this is to begin the process of replacing all the bolts at Frogsmouth with (very long) brand spanking new ones. As part of this, the existing bolts will be removed and lower offs placed.
If you have your own gardening kit, please bring that along (spades, rakes, forks, gloves etc).
The day will run from 10am to 4pm whatever the weather, with a likely retreat to a local pub afterwards for beer and chips.
