Over 100 students wound down after Freshers' Week at this year's BMC Student Safety Seminar, held at Plas y Brenin, North Wales.

The BMC Student Safety and Good Practice Seminar has been a calendar fixture for nearly 20 years, and proved as popular as ever last weekend.

As always, Plas y Brenin was the perfect venue for the event with many of the practical climbing and walking workshops just a short walk from its doors. For our thirsty students, having a bar with tasty beer was a great asset too.

A range of workshops was on offer: single-pitch climbing, multi-pitch climbing, hill walking, navigation, scrambling and mountain first aid.

Club-specific sessions were delivered on themes such as transport, the law and duty of care, and club equipment.

DMM contributed to the latter with their gear breaker, demonstrating just how equipment can fail, especially if poorly maintained.

The success of the seminar is thanks to the dedication of the 36 volunteers who delivered the various sessions and practical workshops, some of whom have been seminar volunteers for many years. A big thanks to all of them.

Next year's Student Safety and Good Practice Seminar will be held at Plas y Brenin on October 5 & 6.
