How can you fuel well to perform well and be healthy? Join top climber Mina Leslie-Wujastyk and expert guest speakers to discover more at a new BMC supported event in Sheffield.
En:spire is a new event, organised by top climber Mina Leslie-Wujastyk and supported by the BMC and GB Climbing.
Taking place on 18 Jan at Awesome Walls Sheffield, En:spire aims to raise awareness around Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport – called RED-S – and provide information about the signs, symptoms, risk factors, consequences and management.
Earlier this year, Mina spoke out about her personal struggles with Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S) , which, for her, was marked by a loss of menstruation among other symptoms.
Her article on UKC sparked a much-needed conversation around health in climbing and demonstrated a growing need for our climbing community (both men and women) to embrace a sustainable narrative around fuelling for our sport.
Climbing, just like running, cycling, fighting and dancing, has an unavoidable weight-sensitive nature, which can lead to dysfunctional behaviours around food and exercise. It’s also very easy to unintentionally under fuel when living very busy, active lives.
Now, the BMC has teamed up with Mina to organise a new event for climbers, bringing expert speakers to educate, inform and raise awareness of the importance of energy availability in sport.
This event is for climbers, coaches, parents and anyone else who wants to gain an insight into fuelling and training effectively to balance health and performance. The dialogue will be centred on climbing but we welcome people from other sports to join the conversation.
