Ed Hamer has achieved a fantastic 2nd place in the final of the World Youth Championships in Imst, Austria.
The Championships started really well with 3 Team GB members qualifying for the Semi-Finals. The results of the qualification rounds were as follows:
Molly Thompson-Smith - 11th
Tara Hayes - 36th
Ed Hamer - 22nd
Buster Martin - 26th
Luke Tilly - 35th
Kitty Wallace - did not climb.
The first 26 in each category qualified for the semis. Hence Molly, Ed and Buster all went through; with Molly and Ed eventually making it through to the finals. Buster was placed 25th.
In the finals Molly achieved a great 8th place.
In the finals Ed was in first place right up to the final climber and then he was pipped into a brilliant 2nd place for his first ever podium place. This is the highest place achieved by a Brit in a World Championship event since Simon Nadin won the first ever climbing World Championship event held back in 1989, so well done Ed!
