Over 50 volunteers got stuck in to remove rhododendron at the Wilton restoration day on 20 November, including staff from Cotswold Outdoor which also financed refreshments for all the volunteers.
Our BMC volunteers teamed up with the Bolton Conservation Volunteers (BCV) to the remove rhododendron from the crag and quarry floor of BMC-owned crag Wilton 1.
The restoration day was part of an ongoing collaborative project between the BMC and BCV to completely eradicate this invasive species from the quarry.
BMC volunteer John Stringfellow, who helped organise the day, said that Sunday's effort resulted in removing about 50 per cent of the remaining rhododendron. It should just take another day or two to complete the job.
Thank you to everyone who helped out and to Cotswold Outdoor for their generous support in the way of manpower and tasty snacks to feed the hungry volunteers..
