Over 100 people climbed more than 60,000m to raise £7,000+ for charity at the Climbing4all event between 17-23 March. Many teams, through various climbing challenges, joined forces and ranged from individuals to school groups, friends and climbing clubs like the Golden Geckos.

Franny Bower from the Golden Geckos who climbed a total of 12,292 metres had this to say:

I am particularly pleased with our achievement, as in addition to most of us being over 60, quite a few of us have conditions that limit how much climbing we can do. The photo with the climber on the rope shows a team member who is completely blind, her belayer and someone with mitochondrial disease. Another has fairly advanced Parkinson's. We only really thought about this once we'd chosen the Climbing 4 All charity, but I suspect that may have had some bearing on our choice, as we all seem to think that climbing helps us to stay positive and as mobile as possible.”

On the first day of the campaign week was kick started by the 'Climbing for all' charity based in Sheffield organised a challenge fundraising day based at the foundry with their regular climbers and the likes of Steve Mcclure, Mina Leslie-Wujastyk, Maddy Cope and Neil Bentley there to help support the day. It was great to see the charity in action and the effort put in by Robin Whittaker and his family to make it successful.

A massive thanks to everyone who got involved to fundraise for the charities. The teams are listed on the table below with the challenges they undertook and the charity they contributed towards.

Next year the BMC will hopefully be running a similar fundraising week so if anyone has any ideas about it or would like to get involved email: james@thebmc.co.uk
