Rubbish dumped over steep cliffs at Pen Trwyn on the Great Orme was recovered and cleared up by local climbers before the bank holiday weekend.

The Great Orme and Craig Pen Trwyn at Llandudno are well known climbing venues and also important designated conservation sites but some irresponsible individuals also think the cliffs make a great spot for dumping their old kitchen units and other household rubbish.

Sometime after Easter, some stupid and irresponsible individual decided that the cliffs below the Marine Drive would make a great spot to fly-tip their rubbish - and the cliffs directly above Lower Pen Trwyn were strewn with the remains of kitchen units, old shoes, clothing and tyres.

Due to the steep location on steep grassy coastal slopes above 50 meter high cliffs, the staff from the Great Orme Country Park were unable to access the rubbish  and asked if the BMC could help out.

Experienced local climbers and rope access trained climbers came to the aid and successfully removed several bags of rubbish and numerous items from the cliff in an operation that took several hours early in the morning in a great example of climbers working successfully with conservation bodies and land owners.
