The long awaited new edition of one of Britain’s most popular climbing books is now in stock in the BMC online shop.
The book describes and vividly depicts eighty of the finest lower grade rock climbs in Britain, many of which were established over a century ago. Compiled by Ken Wilson, and first published in 1978, it has proved perennially popular. This latest edition has been transformed with over 300 new colour photos that can be compared with earlier monochromes, enabling the evolution of climbing styles and equipment to be usefully compared. Virtually all the original articles have been retained. The history of some of the climbs and their pioneers is more fully discussed in side stories.
These classic climbs, though comparatively easy, still offer considerable challenge and risk. They form a bedrock of our finest routes giving excellent days on the hill. Many are on big cliffs and all should be treated with respect. Moreover they reflect key events in the history of the sport.
Full retail price is £32.00, but BMC members can purchase a copy for only £29.00. To purchase, go to the
