Good local relations are being threatened at this popular S. Devon limestone crag by poor parking and climbers accessing the crag through private property.
Staff from The Rock Centre (who also own half the crag) have been in touch to say large numbers of cars are being parked at Rock House, at the Rock Centre or in the Rock Garden Centre and it’s creating a significant problem for the business.
The Rock Centre staff have been friendly towards climbers for many years, and recently installed helpful signage and explained preferred access routes to visitors.
The crag is located off the B3344 road south of Chudleigh town and the BMC recommends parking near the police station and walking (c250m) down Rock Rd. to an access gate and path.
The path follows a wall contouring the hillside - follow this until it splits, take the upper branch for the first sections of the North Face and eventually the upper section of Gagool Buttress.
If you encounter any problems with parking or access please contact the BMC’s access and conservation officer via email Here or on (0161) 438 3309.
