All owners/users of Camp Tricams are advised to inspect them for loose pins, as a precautionary measure.
A Camp Tricam size 1.5 was submitted to the Equipment Investigation Panel as it had a loose spirol pin. The Tricam had the batch number 01-05. The spirol pin connects the sling to the metal chock. Both the pin and the hole in the chock were found to be outside acceptable manufacturing tolerance for use of a spirol pin. This is a potentially dangerous fault that has occurred during manufacture of the device.
After checking their stock and finding it to be free from this problem, the UK distributor and the manufacturer believe this to be a one-off. In the unlikely event that there are other devices with this problem, the BMC recommends that the security of spirol pins are checked as follows:
Using a pen or pencil, push the spirol pin to see whether it slides out of position or not. Try this from both ends of the pin.
If you can push the spirol pin free from the chock, remove the Tricam from service.
If you come across this problem, please fill in the
EIP report form and return it with the faulty Tricam to the BMC.
Please note that as this is the only reported case, the BMC is not requesting a recall.
