Exciting things are happening in the world of University climbing. British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) have introduced a qualification competition for the current University Climbing (Bouldering) Championships at a Regional level.
All Universities will need to compete at their preferred Regional Event before progressing onto a National Final in February. It’s hoped that this will see more participants entering their first competition at a regional level and a much improved final event with a stronger field but fewer competitors.
The Regional Events will take place as follows:
South West – Bloc Bristol – 2 November
Northern – Depot Manchester – 2 November
London & South East – Westway London – 16 November
Midlands – Awesome Walls Stoke – 30 November
Scotland – Climbing Academy Glasgow – 30 November
The BUCS Final will take place at the Climbing Works in Sheffield as part of the BUCS Nationals weekend.
As yet the exact format of the competition is to be confirmed, but BUCS will continue to follow developments closely in order to align the current sporting offer to all University Students in the UK.
For the lead climbers there will be a University Lead Climbing Competition on Nov 23 at Awesome Walls in Sheffield. This is not an official BUCS competition but hopefully it will be adopted in due course.
All details for both the competitions are available on the BUCS website.
