Tyler Landman took an impressive 6th place for Great Britain in the IFSC Climbing World Cup (bouldering) in Vail, Colorado at the weekend.
Big names Sharma (USA) and Lama (AUT) proved no match for 17 year old Landman, although the top 3 places in both the men's and women's bouldering final were dominated by climbers from the USA and Austria. Kilian Fischhuber(Austria) took first place in the men's competition and Alex Johnson (USA) took the top spot in the women's. The USA took the team prize on home turf.
Tyler said: "The Vail bouldering competition was a success in the end for me, although I certainly did not expect it to be this way before I entered. Having never competed in a World Cup bouldering event, I was reluctant at first and felt uncontrollably nervous. However, when put on the spot and in the moment, I found I could handle it calmly enough to stay composed.
Landman's parents are American but he was brought up in the UK. Commenting on wearing the GB vest, Landman said: "There was no question in my mind who I would compete for and I can't thank the BMC enough for letting me represent Great Brtiain under such short notice. I hope to reflect positively a secretly strong country."
He continued: "The training key for me was making sure I had decent power endurance. I knew I would be strong enough, but not getting pumped before that last problem was even more important in my eyes. I dont know the next competition I will enter, but hopefully my relaxed and flexible schedule will help contribute to another good result."

The Vail World Cup was organised as part of the TEVA Mountain Games which attracted a crowd of 7,500. This was the first time the USA has hosted a Bouldering World Cup. The last world cup event to be held in the USA was 18 years ago.
