The British Mountain Map of Snowdonia has won an award at the International Map Trade Association’s annual European conference.
The map won the ‘Best Folded Map’ award, a popular category with entries from all over Europe. Other categories include wall maps and digital products. The International Map Trade Association (ITMA) is the foremost worldwide organisation of the mapping, geospatial and geographic information industry.
British Mountain Maps are published by Harvey in conjunction with the BMC and the British Geological Survey. The maps are based on original Harvey mapping using layer coloured contours to differentiate between mountains and valleys. This enables them to show clearly the information most needed by climbers, walkers and mountaineers. They are printed on polyethylene, and are tough, lightweight and waterproof.
The Snowdonia map is the second in the British Mountain Maps series. The first map, covering the Lake District, won the Outdoor Writers’ Guild Derryck Draper Award in 2005. The third map, covering the Dark Peak area of the Peak District, will be launched at the Ordnance Survey Outdoors Show, which starts on Friday 16 March at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham.
