The BMC International Committee has awarded BMC expedition grants for 2008 to 11 expeditions and has approved others.
There has been considerable financial belt tightening in this area since UKSport ceased funding the BMC for such awards. However, through prudent management in previous years the committee has £14,000 to award this year.
At the outset, the International Committee decided to award grants to just 11 trips with other worthwhile trips being awarded the status of an approved expedition. Although expeditions awarded approved status do not receive any financial support from the BMC they do find that status very helpful when seeking sponsorship, obtaining permits for peaks, dealing with government departments, and so on. The BMC awards for 2008 are as follows.
