The Jeremy Willson Charitable Trust (JWCT) awards an annual £1,000 grant via the BMC to qualifying mountaineering expeditions.
The grant is inspired by Jeremy Willson . Jeremy was a keen mountaineer, adventurer and field geologist - he felt at home in the mountains and travelled extensively around the world, exploring remote regions for both work and recreation. He sadly died of new variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (vCJD), a rare degenerative fatal brain disease, in March 2006. He was extremely unlucky - to date, only 229 people are known to have contracted vCJD worldwide. He was reduced from an incredibly active and outgoing person to a state in which he lost his ability to walk, remember, eat, co-ordinate, speak and do those things that we all take for granted.
Jeremy grabbed life in both hands and achieved more in his short 30 years than most would expect to do in a whole lifetime. He inspired and encouraged others to achieve things they did not think they were able to do. It is in this spirit that the grant is provided.
The Jeremy Willson Charitable Trust helps people and projects that reflect Jeremy’s passions in life.
The grant guidelines, including application form, can be found here . The application form should be returned to the BMC International Committee Secretary, Nick Colton (nick@thebmc.co.uk ). Closing date is 1st March each year.
