Ben Fogle at the Roaches

Ben Fogle on Valkyrie

Ben Fogle, may sound like he could be mistaken for a mountain in Scotland, but last week there was no mistaking the BBC presenter who was spotted by climbers at the Roaches whilst climbing with the BMC’s Dave Turnbull.

Dave led Ben up Valkyrie (VS), whilst the cameras rolled for a brand new BBC rural affairs series called Country Tracks. The conditions were excellent, although Dave had to bear a bitter wind whilst belaying at the top in a t-shirt as he wasn’t able to put his jacket on – all in the name of continuity. Ben put in an impressive performance for a novice, having recently returned from his South Pole Race.

The series Country Tracks is a celebration of the British Countryside and sees Ben trying out different local activities in different parts of the British Isles, influenced by archive footage from its sister programme Countryfile. The programme showing the Roaches will be aired in about 6 weeks time. Country Tracks is taking over Countryfile’s Sunday morning slot on BBC 1 as Countryfile moves to Sunday evenings.
