For the first time ever, we saw British athletes compete in both the women’s and men’s final of an IFSC Lead World Cup when the GB Climbing Team headed to the legendary mountain town of Chamonix. Marking the start of the IFSC World Championships 2018 was the Lead events, where GB athletes got off to an inspiring start in Innsbruck, Austria, over the weekend. Will Bosi finished in an impressive 13th place, while Molly Thompson-Smith amazed everyone by placing 11th place – just one away from finals – in her first competition after recovering from a serious finger injury. Molly Thompson-Smith won the bronze medal in the IFSC Lead World Cup in Kranj, Slovenia, the first time a GB woman has ever finished on the podium in such a competition. BMC ambassador Shauna Coxsey also competed in the final, earning enough points to finish third in the Combined Rankings and win another bronze medal for the GB Climbing Team. Read more »

The IFSC World Cup season continued last weekend in Wujiang, China, where Molly Thompson-Smith was the only GB Climbing Team athlete to make the journey and forgo participating in the British Lead Climbing Championships. Despite flying solo and nearly losing her checked baggage, Molly performed brilliantly to make finals and take 5th place: her highest ever finish in an IFSC World Cup. Read more »
