The last 40 years of the Alpine Journal are now available to view online.
The Alpine Club’s annual journal is a record of mountain adventure and scientific observation since 1863. The club is in the process of digitising all volumes of the journal. Stage one (1969-2008) has been completed. This comprises over 2,000 articles, including accounts of most of the landmark ascents since 1969.
There are currently three ways to search the journal: by year; by mountain area or 8,000m peak; or by a particular word or phrase. It is also possible to consult the published indexes from 1863 to 2008.
Access to the online journal is free to AC members and the wider mountaineering community. To view the journals go to www.alpinejournal.org.uk or click on the link from the Publications page on the Alpine Club website.
Stage two of the project (digitising the remaining volumes from 1863 to 2008) will cost over £3,500. If you would like to contribute to these costs, any such help would be gratefully received – contact the Alpine Club office
