The BMC Access Management Group (AMG) is seeking several new members to help guide our Access, Conservation & Environmental Sustainability work programme and support the staff team. If you have a relevant background at a senior, policy or strategic level and would like to get involved – please read on.
The BMC has five staff members covering access, conservation and environmental matters at a local and national level across England and Wales. The AMG is a group of volunteers which provides technical support and strategic guidance to the staff, and keeps the Board and Members Council appraised about important matters of relevance to climbers, hill walkers and mountaineers. The Group is chaired by Andy Tickle (background in landscapes, planning and campaigns), and includes Ken Taylor, Ray Wood, Louise Hawson (chair of the Sustainability working group) and Barbara Jones (chair of the Conservation working group); it meets quarterly either virtually or face-to-face in Manchester, Covid-19 regulations permitting.

We would be particularly interested to hear from outdoor enthusiasts with a strategic mind-set and strong backgrounds and experience in one or more of the following:
-
Access & environmental legislation;
-
Countryside management, planning, landscape & conservation policy;
-
Political advocacy, legal rights & environmental campaigning;
-
Climate change, biodiversity & species conservation;
-
Energy infrastructure & extractive industry impacts;
-
Environmental education & interpretation.
Direct experience of working with key government agencies and landowning bodies will be a distinct advantage and it is assumed applicants will have a passion for the cliff and mountain environment. Access, conservation and environmental work is regularly cited by BMC members as the most important function of the organisation.
