This year is the 70th anniversary of the 1949 National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act, legislation that led to the creation of National Parks, AONBs, National Trails, the definitive map in both England and Wales, and National Nature Reserves across Great Britain.
The Act was achieved thanks to tireless campaigning from organisations across the sector, and we want to celebrate that work, and encourage more people to continue campaigning today.
By keeping alive the ambitions of the 1949 Act, we can ensure more people become happier and healthier. Together, we’re continuing the fight to ensure the next generation can have the same access to landscapes as we’ve enjoyed.
Over the next couple of weeks our friends at the Ramblers are running a small campaign celebrating the Act, its legacy and the incredible work of campaigners past and present in protecting and enhancing our landscapes for future generations to enjoy. You can continue the fight today and get involved #KeepOnRambling.
